The history of Santiago de Compostela dates back to ancient history, the castro culture, the arrival of the romans and, as a turning point, the encounter of the supposed burial of Santiago Apostle. From that moment, the city focussed on the power centre represented by the archbishop of Santiago and his physical representation, the Cathedral.
